What West Governs
The West is ruled by Varuna, the lord of waters and the receding evening sun. It governs completion of the day's cycle, rest, dining, evening relaxation, and the welfare of children. While not as auspicious as North or East, the West is essential for balance — it's where the day's accumulated energy releases.
West-facing houses are workable but require care: morning sunlight is limited, so the family needs to consciously create morning brightness through artificial light or use of mirrors. Children's bedrooms placed in the West support their natural learning rhythm — they grow well here. Dining rooms in the West support digestion of the evening meal.
The West is also the direction of the setting sun, which symbolically governs accumulated wisdom. Studies and offices placed in the West favour deep work, research, and accumulated expertise — though they're less suited to high-energy entrepreneurial activity (which thrives in the North or East).
