Vastu Shastra — Direction Guide for Home, Office & Plot

Vastu Shastra is the Vedic science of aligning your built environment — home, office, plot of land — with the natural flow of cosmic energy through the 8 cardinal and diagonal directions. Each direction has a ruling deity, an element (Earth/Water/Fire/Air/Space), and activities that thrive there. Vastu prescribes where to place rooms, doors, kitchens, and beds so that life-energy moves with you rather than against you.

North-facing and East-facing entrances are the most auspicious. North is ruled by Kuber (the lord of wealth), so a North entrance invites cash flow and prosperity. East is ruled by Indra and receives the morning sun, bringing health and clarity. North-East is also excellent. The directions to avoid for the main door are South-West (the family's grounding zone — destabilises if energy enters there) and South (Yama's quarter).

Earth's geomagnetic field flows roughly from the South pole to the North pole. The human body also has a magnetic polarity — head positive, feet negative. When you sleep with your head pointing North, your body's polarity opposes Earth's — disturbing blood circulation, restlessness in sleep, raised blood pressure over time, and blocked deeper rest. Vastu's prescription (head pointing South or East) actually has measurable physiological grounding.

Yes — most defects respond to non-structural remedies: mirrors to redirect prana flow, colour and material changes, placement of yantras (Vastu Purusha mandala, Kuber yantra), pyramid placement, water features, and removing heavy items from light zones. Major structural defects (toilet in NE, kitchen in N) sometimes require either restructuring or strong compensatory remedies — consult a qualified practitioner before any major change.

Brahmasthan is the geometric centre of any plot or building — the energetic 'heart' where all 8 directions converge. In Vastu it's the seat of Brahma, the creator, and represents the home's central nervous system. It should ideally be open, clean, and free of heavy elements like staircases, load-bearing walls, toilets, or storage. A blocked or polluted Brahmasthan tends to produce chaotic family decisions, recurring illness in residents, and unexplained financial drainage.

Yes — every enclosed space carries directional energy. In apartments you can't change the structural orientation, but you can: place the bed so your head faces South or East, set up the pooja niche in the North-East, put the cash safe in the South-West opening toward the North, keep the kitchen activity along the South-East counter, and use mirrors / colours / plants to compensate for missing directions. Even small alignments shift the daily energy noticeably.
